Born in Kilrush in County Clare in 1935, Michael Tubridy has played a vital role in the history of traditional Irish music and dance. In 1962, he was a founding member of the traditional Irish music group The Chieftains with whom he played the tin whistle, flute, and concertina. Michael remained a member of the group until 1979.Michael is also a dancer and teacher of old-time step dancing. He and his wife Celine learned from dancing master Dan Furey, who lived in Labasheeda in County Clare. They have been teaching these dances throughout Ireland and in other places as far away as Germany, France, and Japan.
After teaching a step dancing workshop, Michael will be playing a concert interspersed with stories about his youth in Clare, and his many years of musical experience, followed by an informal session.
